You wash your car. But washing isn’t detailing. A detail goes deeper: decontaminating the paint, extracting carpets and seats, cleaning the spots a wash never touches, and adding protection. So how often should you actually do it? In Central Florida, the answer is a little different than in most of the country.
The short answer: for most Florida drivers, a full detail every 3–6 months keeps your car in great shape, with regular washes in between. Here’s how to figure out where you fall.
Why Florida cars need detailing more often
Sun, every day. Strong UV year-round fades paint and dries out dashboards, leather, and trim. Protection wears off faster here than up north.
Love bug season. In May and September, love bugs coat the front of your car. Left to bake, they can etch your clear coat.
Heat inside the car. Spills, sunscreen, and food smells set in fast when the cabin sits at 130°F in a parking lot.
Humidity and rain. Damp mats and carpets can start to smell musty, and afternoon storms leave water spots on paint and glass.
Sand, pollen, and pets. Beach trips, spring pollen, and dog hair all build up quickly.
How often to detail, by situation
Daily commuter on I-4 or US-27: full detail every 3–4 months, plus a wash every 1–2 weeks.
Family vehicle with kids or pets: interior detail every 2–3 months, exterior every 3–4 months.
Weekend or low-mileage car: full detail every 6 months.
Ceramic-coated car: maintenance detail every 4–6 months to decontaminate and keep the coating performing.
Seasonal or vacation-home car: a detail when you arrive and another before it sits for the summer.
Signs it’s time for a detail
Paint feels rough or looks dull even after a wash
Water no longer beads on the surface
Bug spots or water spots won’t come off
Seats or carpets are stained, or the car has a lingering smell
The dash or trim looks faded or chalky
A simple Florida detailing schedule
A lot of our customers in Davenport, ChampionsGate, and Kissimmee follow a rhythm like this: a full detail in early spring before love bug season, a quick exterior refresh after it, another full detail in late summer, and a final one heading into the cooler months. Add regular washes in between and your car stays protected all year.
What does that cost?
Our mobile detailing packages start at $100 for an exterior detail, $169 for an interior detail, and $254 for a full interior and exterior detail, all done in your driveway. If you want to cut down on how often you need a full detail, a ceramic coating makes maintenance much easier in the Florida sun.
